INTRODUCTION

A few people're asking for a 95Lite, to install Windows 95 without Internet Explorer. This is a quite simple process I discovered years ago, and tweaked over time. I have no time to write a proggy, but here is the manual solution. for OSR2 (and OSR 2.1).

HOW TO ?

The process is not really difficult. I'll describe it so you can do it by yourself .

• Copy the folder \Win95\ from your Windows 95 CD to your HD. (You don't need sub-folders)
• If a file named Setuppp.inf is not present, extract it from Precopy2.cab, and keep it in the same folder ( you can use the powerToy CabView, WinZip 7.0, ...).
• If this file was on the CD, it's Read Only, so revert it to normal state (Context menu of the file, Properties, uncheck Read Only).
• Edit this file with any text editor, find the string "ohare.inf" and replace with ";hare.inf". Find the string "msinfo.inf" and replace with ";sinfo.inf". Find the string "mos.inf" and replace with ";os.inf". Find the string "athena.inf" and replace with ";thena.inf". Now save the file; the size should not be changed (this seems to be important with US versions).
• Now setup Windows from this directory

Here are the the involved files, they should be present in your CD, if not extract Appletpp.inf and Layout.inf, keep them beside your CAB files and patch them according to your needs...

D'aucuns souhaiteraient pouvoir bénéficier d'une solution élégante pour ne pas installer Internet Explorer 3.0 en même temps que Windows 95. C'est relativement facile.Voici la solution manuelle. Ca marchera avec OSR2 et OSR 2.1

PAS A PAS

Le procédé n'est guère difficile. Il est à la portée beaucoup de monde:

• Copier le répertoire \Win95\ du CD d'installation de Windows 95 vers votre Disque dur. (Vous n'avez pas besoin des sous-répertoires)
• S'il n'y a pas de fichier nommé Setuppp.inf , il faudra l'extraire depuis Precopy2.cab, et le conserver dans ce même dossier ( vous pouvez utiliser le PowerToy CabView, WinZip 7.0, et bien d'autres...).
• Si le fichier était présent sur le CR, il est en lecture seule, et vous devrez le déprotéger (Mebu contextuel, Propriétés, décocher Lecture seule).
• Editez ce fichier avec un editeur de texte comme NotePad ou WordPad, recherchez la chaine "ohare.inf" et remplacez-là par ";hare.inf". Recherchez la chaine "msinfo.inf" et remplacez-là par ";sinfo.inf". Recherchez la chaine "mos.inf" et remplacez-là par ";os.inf". Recherchez la chaine "athena.inf" et remplacez-là par ";thena.inf". Sauvegardez maintenant le fichier, la taille devrait être restée la même (C'est sans importance avec Windows 95 version franàçaise, mais semble important dans la version US).
• Maintenant, retirez votre CD, et installez Windows depuis le répertoire créé sur votre disque dur.
